Volunteering With EMS

Mediators

If you would like to train as a mediator and volunteer with EMS then you can contact us and ask for your contact details to be added to our database of interested persons.

We train new mediators approx. once every two years and train around 16 at a time. Once the funding has been secured and the dates of the training agreed then we contact everyone on our waiting list and offer them the opportunity to attend a presentation/informal chat.

We then invite formal applications for places on the course. The training course is six days (usually over weekday evenings and/or weekends) spread over a two month period.
On the last day, those who have completed the course will be assessed and advised whether they are ready to join the service as a mediator or whether they need more training/support.
Attendance at these training sessions is vitally important and those who cannot commit should not apply.

Those who successfully complete the couse receive an induction pack and are invited to an induction event before commencing volunteering.

The last course was run in February/March 2007.

People who have already trained as mediators elsewhere on an accredited course but would like to volunteer with EMS are welcome to contact us and we will try to offer them volunteering opportunities, subject to interview and proof of training.

Management Committee

Our Management Committee is made up of volunteers who have an interest in mediation.
There are formal positions such as Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Mediator Rep and then there are other members who just need to commit to reading the reports, attending meetings regularly and taking part in the discussions and the decision making process.

The Management Committee forms a board of trustees and takes overall responsibility for the running of the service including work programme and finances.

We currently have a small number of vacancies so interested persons should contact us for more details. The existing Management Committee believes strongly in regular attendance and team players.

We are particularly looking for members with HR or PR skills/experience.

Other volunteering opportunities

We often have other volunteering opportunities from time to time.
You can contact us for details or speak to the Volunteer Centre at Ealing CVS on 020 8280 2241
